Lucky Star

is...actually pretty good. It's the sort of thing that grows on you, like fungus.

Financial Woes

Warning: Bitch post.

It is simply amazing how low the starting salary of any fresh-grad-degree-holding auditor is when compared against other disciplines in the private sector. How is one supposed to pay his insurance, set aside (at least) $1000 for investments, pay for their bills, transport and food with only $2200 a month?

Plus I'm stuck in the middle of the CBD with alot of good, albeit expensive, food surrounding me - & Ionno if thats a good or bad thing.

But that's how I've been living for the past four months - Until today when I decided to liquidate 50% of my investment portfolio by selling all 20 lots of my Lion Teck Chiam shares. The reason? CFA, an insurance plan with higher annual premium, a 'lil PC upgrade and the fact that I'd like to for ONCE, see a little money in my bank account*.

and oh btw, I managed to convince 2 other people to take CFA together with me. (not including Paul since he originally wanted to take it anyway) And the feeling that people take you seriously when you provide 'em with advice for their future? Priceless.

But for now, I guess I'll have to worry about passing my CFA exams and bringing my portfolio worth back to it's original 23k position by the end of the year. arrgh.

* Leaving $200 in your local bank account with $300 taken to investing in say, unit trusts (low risk) with a simple 8% interest p.a. gives you $24, or $2 per month, which offsets the monthly $2 deduction DBS/UOB takes from poor folk like us. Student-investors have a habit of precariously leaving their account at the $100-$250 mark with the intention of investing the balance in a higher yield security.

Army officer fined for indecent exposure

"An SAF officer was fined $2,500 today for trespassing at a school and exposing himself to two girls opposite a women's toilet.

District Judge Lee Poh Choo decided not to sentence him to jail as she believed 'he deserves a second chance'."
