The Holy Trinity*

Breaking down the ACCA syllabus, we have fourteen papers spread across three levels with each level being more difficult than the last. Upon completion of level two, candidates will be given an option to pursue an academic degree in applied accounting from some faraway, obscure place - the results (class of honours) of which are dependent on a combination of 1) the quality of the dissertation; and 2) the average mark achieved in all ACCA papers undertaken in Levels 1 and 2 examinations.

(Btw, this is bloody unfair. There are 6 papers in level 2. I have seen people get exemptions up to 2.3 and get 3rd class honours just because their average for the remaining papers (2.4, 2.5 and 2.6) weren’t that good**)

Next, allow me to say this. I do not think much of the degree that they are offering because:
1) It is not likely that I will apply for an academic masters in accounting.
2) I am not a foreigner from a non-traditional source country. (basically, you need a degree to apply for a work permit here)
3) And obviously, completion of ACCA > this degree from some obscure place.

IF there were anything that mattered to me throughout the course, it would be the final three core papers, which are a built-up of what one learns throughout the course. I am somehow inclined to believe that prospective employers (especially the Big 4 firms) take particular note on the scores of these 3 subjects.

Sian. It just isn’t about scraping through anymore. I’ll have to work extra hard (and might even have to quit my part-time job) in the upcoming 6 months to come.

So….*ahem* if any of you have part-time jobs that require very short term commitments (say 2 or 3 days), rope me in ok?

Finally, thank you Jason for the office refurbishing lobang, Paul for the focus group survey opening and Alex for the recruitment agent recommendation. What would I do without you guys?

(I realize that the entry is rather unstructured today, but meh. I'm too tired to re-edit, and I still have my fullpack to pack.)

* Not God nor KGO. I am referring to ACCA papers 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7 here.
** It is vital to appreciate the differences between an academic and professional qualification. The most crucial difference to a student, besides needing relevant working experience, is perhaps this: In an academic qualification, one is assessed on a variety of criteria (attendance, continual assessmets, mid terms) before arriving at a final grade. In a professional qualification, the three hours that an individual spends in exam hall is the only chance that he/she gets to prove themselves. This means that you're fucked if the papers for that particular sitting are unreasonably difficult.

Few things are...

More irritating than getting your arm fractured while roller-blading and being sent to the hospital - only to have your handphone lifted out of your pouch while you weren't noticing.

Anyone would feel sorry for you Andrew.
